The First Large-scale Pumped Storage Power Station in Northeast China Put into Operation

Recently, the first large-scale Pumped Storage Power Station in Northeast China - Pushi River Pumped Storage Power Station was officially put into operation.

The power plant is located in the territory of the Manchu Autonomous County, Dandong City, Liaoning Province, designed installation of 300,000 kilowatts * 4 sets of generators, a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts, with construction work started in August 2006, and the total investment of 4.5 billion yuan. The power plant monitoring system takes initiative to use the domestic intelligent programmable controller, breaking the monopoly of foreign similar products.

According to statistics available, the first set put into operation in January this year generated for 32 times, pumped for 23 times, and ran a total of about 160 hours. Especially during the Lunar New Year's Eve to the Lunar sixth day the set generated and pumped for 11 times each, and ran a total of about 95 hours, showing the flexibility and specialty of the service for the grid. At present, the installation and commissioning work of the remaining three sets of the power plants is conducted orderly, and as is planned, the plants are to be put into operation during the year.

Thermal power accounts for about 80% in the Northeast China Grid, of which about 40% do not participate in the peaking regulation of the heating sets in winter. The peaking regulation problem of grid operation is serious.

At the same time, the area of wind power has reached a large development scale, the lack of peaking regulation power, wind power operation is very restricted. The Northeast region is rich in coal resources, the future development of electric power will continue to be thermal power, the new scale pumped-storage power plants have positive significance for enhancing the power peaking capacity and improving the efficiency of wind power utilization.
