On February 14, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The "complete sets of technology and engineering applications of cassava non-grain fuel ethanol" project jointly completed by Tianjin University and Guangxi COFCO Biomass Energy Co., Ltd., obtained the National Science and Technology Progress Second Award.
The project achieved key technologies innovation and system integration of fuel ethanol, and formed a sets of cassava non-grain fuel ethanol technology. It obtained 15 patents for inventions, the overall technology is at the international leading level.
Since year 2007, Tianjin University's non-grain fuel ethanol manufacturing technology has been widely used in Guangxi COFCO's "cassava fuel ethanol production demonstration project with annual output of 200,000 tons", "cassava fuel ethanol phase two expansion project", Shandong ZhenLong Biochemical Group's "tuber fuel ethanol projects with annual output of 100,000 tons", Jiangxi petrochemical Yufan alcohol company's "cassava fuel ethanol project with annual output of 100,000 tons", the ZTE energy (Inner Mongolia) Co., Ltd.'s "sweet sorghum fuel ethanol demonstration project with an annual output of 30,000 tons", and COFCO biomass Energy (Zhaodong)'s "corn fuel ethanol pilot project".
The Guangxi COFCO's "cassava fuel ethanol production demonstration project with annual output of 200,000 tons" project enabled farmers to increase income of about 430 million yuan per year and enterprises to increase revenue of 2.55 billion. The cassava ethanol gasoline is widely used in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
