Five Major Power Groups Of China Leave Out Of Thermal Power And Focus On New Energy

In order to make up for the book losses, the five major power groups in China on the one hand sell the assets of the thermal power, on the other hand speed up the layout of new energy business.

On the "CPPCC National Committee members to talk about the development of new energy and clean energy" press conference held on March 10th, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, and general manager of China Power Investment Corporation, Lu Qi-zhou revealed that the company had just signed a Nuclear Power cooperation agreement with Duke Energy.

According to the reports of the media during the two sessions, CPI intends to adjusted one of its thermal power listed companies to the environmental protection listed company. After that it will integrate the new energy, hydro, nuclear plates gradually. According to the plan, by 2015, its proportion of clean energy will increase from the current 30% to 40%.

CPI is not the only one to accelerate new energy projects. Following the try to shale gas development in Hunan Province, China Huadian recently entered the field of new energy in Hainan for the first time, and further promoted distributed energy development in Guangdong.

China Guodian will focus more on wind power. China Guodian Corporation general manager, Zhu Yong-peng pointed out that by the end of 2011 the hydropower, wind power, solar and other renewable clean energy accounted for 22% of the total installed capacity, of which the wind power installed capacity reached 12.26 million kilowatts, ranked first in Asia and second across the world.
