XTBG "Molecular Breeding of Energy Plant - Jatropha" Project Accepted

On 15 January, experts from Bureau of Life Sciences and Biotechnology Chinese Academy of Sciences held a "molecular energy plants Jatropha breeding" project acceptance meeting at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in China. The expert panel reviewed the project-related materials, listened to the project team's report, agreed based on the questioning and full discussion that the project had been completed according to project requirements of the mission statement of the relevant work, and achieved good results and meet the target, for which they agreed to accept the project. Regarding the low yielding of the Jatropha seeds due to low proportion of female flowers, the project team systematically carried out a variety of studies on plant growth regulators on flower development and sex determination impact of jatropha. 9 SCI papers were published via this project; 2 Chinese invention patents and 2 international patents (PCT) were applied; 2 new varieties of Jatropha certificates were obtained.

The study found the breakthrough of seed yielding of energy plant - Jatropha, and laid the foundation for the study on the function of Jatropha genetic research and the use of genetically modified Jatropha technology in the future. The results are among the advanced level across the world.
