Sinopec biofuels and bio-chemical laboratory microalgae project leader Wang lingmin said that biomass energy is solar energy by photosynthesis of the plants on Earth. It can replace traditional fossil fuels after being processed. Microalgae is a kind of widely distributed aquatic organisms with efficient photosynthetic response system, which could convert light energy to chemical energy stored in the body cells through photosynthesis in the form of grease or starch. It not only can effectively reduce the oil extraction and refining process to produce the waste gas and wastewater, but also can fix atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by human activities, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, through the cultivation of microalgae to produce bio-diesel as an alternative of non-renewable energy resources. That's the reason why he and his group study microalgae.
In year 2012, Wang Lingmin and their laboratories will further improve the microalgae scale cultivation, the construction of the algal species pool, the screening excellent species, so as to cultivate microalgae in large scale. Wang Lingmin hopes that the laboratory can develop a rich microalgae biomass refining platform technology, to take the small microalgae cells as factories, and refine more and better green low-carbon biomass energy.
